Phonics

Phonics

Whilst your children are off school, it is really important that they continue with regular reading and phonics to ensure that they retain what they have learnt in order to keep their confidence and progress up for when they return back to school! We will be assessing the children's phonics level before Christmas so the more they can practice at home the better.

We practise phonics daily usually at around 10.50 so if it is possible for your children to log in to teams at that time that would be amazing as they will be able to receive our input and join in with our class phonics activities which are usually a range of short games and quizzes. However timetables and technology aren't always a good mix so if you are unable to access teams for any reason then do let us know and we can try sending some work across.

We use the website Phonics Play for a lot of our work and they are currently offering a range of subscriptions for children that are unable to attend school. I have attached some information on these below, so please have a look so that if you can't join our lessons then the children can play the games at home. They can choose a mix of phase 3, 4 and 5 games to play - Phase 6 focuses on spelling rather than sound so your children are more than welcome to have a look at the phase 6 parts but this is something we will look at after Christmas, and it is more important that they look at the previous phases to really consolidate their prior knowledge.

We are fully aware that phonics is a strange concept for many and can sometimes be hard to get your head around, so please contact us for help and we will do what we can! We have attached sound mats for you so hopefully these will help you out but we are always at the end of an email if you need us smiley
