Pupil Leadership

At Bentley St Paul's we encourage our pupils to take on leadership roles in Year 6.  This enables them to take on responsibility of a particular area before they move onto the next phase in their lives.

Whilst the children are in Year 5 they receive a letter outlining the different roles and what qualities they need to fulfil each role.  The children then write an application letter expressing an interest one or more of the roles and explain why they think they are suitable for it.

Staff come together and consider the children's application letters and allocate roles according to their strengths and application.

The children's roles are awarded at the end of the Summer Term each year.

Head of School:

These need to be children who are confident to represent the school in a number of different ways.  They need to be someone who can talk to visitors confidently and even give them tours around the school.  They will also represent the school as an ambassador for the Trust.  They need to be confident to speak in Collective Worship.

Prefects:

Prefects need to be children who are willing to give their time to help others.  They need to be able to speak calmly and kindly to the younger children and be organised and efficient with time.

Team Captains:

Team Captains need to be able to lead groups of children and be passionate about their team achieving well.  They need to be able to think of ideas for encouraging children to do things to get team points and have ways of motivating the children across the school to get them.

Ministers:

They should put yourself forward for a minister role if you have a passion for the area the role covers.  They don’t need to be an expert but you do need to be confident and keen to make a difference.  Each role is a little different and there are plenty of things they can do within each role.  They do need to be prepared to give up some of your time to dedicate to the role if they are going to do it properly.  They also need to be able to work with children from each class across the school to plan and come up with ideas to improve our school.

Minister for RE and Worship – They will be expected to lead Mini-Team once a week, They may like to run a bible club or a prayer group.

Minister for Learning – They will need to be interested in learning and have ideas about how to encourage children across the school to learn and achieve.
