Spelling Patterns

During the course of Year 3 and Year 4, we work on learning about and around the spelling rules covered in the statutory spelling guidance. Each week we have a different focus. 

Please see below some resources that support your child's learning. Here you can find the focus rule and some activities which include example words which fit each pattern.

Please note these are not intended to be used a list of spelling to learn. In fact, we have a competition section on our spelling display for children to find as many other examples of words that follow the same rule but do not appear on the examples list. These can be words they have specifically looked up or come across during the week. They simply write their new word (that fits the weekly spelling focus) on a PostIt note and add it to the board. I will pick one each week (at random) and the child, whose suggestion it was, will receive 10 team points and, therefore, a marble for the class jar.
