A little guidance to help support your child...
Phonics is a way of teaching children how to read and write. It helps them hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language. Below are some resources and tips that you could use to support your child when helping them to develop those skills.
When your child is engaging in any reading or writing activity, having the necessary sound mats available is important. It allows the child to refer to them as and when needed, helping them to clarify their thinking, develop their independence and promote their self-help skills. Below are annotated sound mats and videos if you are unsure of the connection between image and sound.
There are also a number of weblinks that include a range of resources such as games, reading materials and phonics practise, which can be explored and used to deepen your child's phonetic knowledge further.
